Well, the inevitable looks set to happen next month.

After holding off on raising petrol prices since the start of this year (mainly because of a government directive to keep prices steady until elections in politically important states are over), oil marketing companies are gearing up to raise prices in March 2012.

Petrol prices could rise by about Rs 3 per litre early next month after the Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, oil companies are losing money on the sale of petrol (which can be freely priced by companies but still requires government approval),on top of what they are losing on kerosene, diesel and LPG, the prices of which are set by the government. Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s largest fuel retailer, is currently losing Rs 3.30 per litre on selling petrol below market prices.

A petrol price hike will have implications for inflation, interest rates and the auto industry.

An Israeli embassy car was gutted after an explosion Monday in the heart of the Indian capital, leaving the wife of the defence attache and three Indians injured. Israel immediately blamed Iran, triggering a potential diplomatic war.

The early evening attack came on the same day when an attempted attack on the Israeli embassy in Georgian capital Tbilisi was foiled when an employee discovered a car fitted with an explosive device.

By late evening, Tal Yehoshua Koren, who suffered multiple injuries in Delhi, underwent a surgery for spinal injuries at a hospital in the diplomatic enclave, Medical Superintendent N.D. Khurana told IANS.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) declaring the December 2011 Term End Examination (TEE) results of over 90 percent  students in a month’s time. A record 4,17,047 students appeared for 2045 courses at 803 examination centres including 40 international.

The last exam for December 2011 session concluded on 29th December 2011. As per the ordinance, the exam results are meant to be declared within the stipulated time period of 45 days. Evaluators were drawn from prestigious institutions across the country and IGNOU faculty members were involved in the evaluation work.

The result of the written exams of the Data Entry Operator conducted by the Staff Selection Commission has been announced. The exams were held on December 4 and 11, 2011.

Those qualifying the written test of the SSC Data Entry Operator Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) level 2012 will be called for subsequent tests.
According to the SSC, 20168 candidates qualified provisionally for typing test for LDC and 10639 candidates for skill test for DEO in the written part of the examination and are thus eligible to be called for Type Test/ Data Entry Tests.

RIP Dennis Ritchie 70, Creator and Author Of C Programming Language &  Co-Author Of UNIX OS  Dies Mr Dennis Ritchie was  one of the greatest computer engineers of our times who created the C programming language and co-creator of UNIX died on October 8, 2011. Mr. Ritchie died after a long illness; the details are unknown yet. He was a researcher at Lucent and retired from his position as the Head Researcher in 2007; but remained active as a consultant. Mr. Ritchie is widely known among the geek community as the creator of C programming language and co-author of the famous book on C; titled The C Programming Language. He also had a very important role in the development of UNIX which is now widely used in various applications. Most of his career was spent at Bell Labs.He was awarded the prestigious Turing Award in 1983 and The National Medal Of Technology in 1999. RIP, Mr. Ritchie.
